CONGO SQUARE

During the times of slavery for Africans in the United States, slaves in New Orleans, Louisiana, were permitted to gather, play their drums, and dance only on Sundays in an area known as Congo Square. As the African rhythms and dance were celebrated there, a convergence of cultures began with European cultural expressions, which later developed into the Mardi Gras Indian traditions, New Orleans Second Line, and eventually American Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Blues, and Latin Jazz. This composition “Congo Square” takes you on a celebrated journey of these cultures coming together. This original composition Congo Square can be found on “My Latin Heart” by Roger Glenn.
